It feels like forever ago that head coach Mike Norvell and Florida State were winning double-digit games and making claims for College Football Playoff love. The next two years saw the Seminoles combine to go 7-17, though, and losing dozens of players in the transfer portal prior to this campaign didn’t help.

Some rotten luck may have been involved, as FSU went winless in one-score games and struggled with turnovers but didn’t have much trouble moving the ball. In is QB Ashton Daniels now, and he’s commanding an offense that puts up 33.2 points each time out. On defense, the Seminoles are holding foes to 21.6 PPG, good for 55th nationwide.

Florida State kicked off its season with a resounding win over New Mexico State but, as expected, dropped two in a row to #19 SMU and #10 Alabama. With that in the rearview mirror, Norvell’s squad has reestablished its footing and held Central Arkansas and Virginia to 7 points each in Weeks 4 and 5.

Year three of the Jeff Brohm era at Louisville saw more of the same, as the Cardinals went 9-4 and notched a bowl victory for the second season in a row. A QB change was in store for this school, too, as Lincoln Kienholz came over from Ohio State to fill in for Miller Moss and has done so admirably to this point.

He was joined by a plethora of portal additions, including former Seminole WR Lawayne McCoy and WR Tre Richardson (Vanderbilt).

There was more stability on the defensive side of the ball, headlined by star DL Clev Lubin, who remains a nightmare for opposing fronts. He and Jerod Smith are forces to be reckoned with, and that’s without even mentioning pieces like LB T.J. Capers (38 tackles) and Tennessee transfer S Kaleb Beasley (35 tackles, 3 INTs, 2 PBUs) at the next level.

The Cardinals lost a close one to #9 Ole Miss (41-38) to open the season, then took down Villanova and the aforementioned SMU before suffering 3-point defeats to both Wake Forest and NC State. Louisville looks up to Florida State in the ACC standings, but if just a few plays go differently, we could be witnessing a totally different scenario.

On the injury front, DL Darryll Desir has been upgraded from questionable to probable on the availability report for the Seminoles. RB Samuel Singleton Jr., S Jordan Crutchfield, and LB Izayia Williams are all out. For the Cardinals, Kienholz is probable, as are S Koen Entringer and DL Joshua Donald. RB Keyjuan Brown and RT Cason Henry are questionable.

The two programs have split four head-to-head meetings this decade, with Louisville winning and covering in 2020 and 2021 before Florida State did the same in 2022 and 2023. The most recent bout was at a neutral site, so this one being at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium does add some intrigue.

Florida State vs. Louisville Prediction on Over/Under – 10/9/26

Here are the key game stats and trends behind our Florida State vs. Louisville prediction on the over/under for Friday, October 9’s game.

  • Florida State is 1-4 to the over this season but 1-0 in that split as a road underdog. Louisville, meanwhile, is 4-1 to the over in five games and 2-1 to it as a home favorite.
  • These two offensive powerhouses combine to post 63.5 points and 868.3 yards each week, and neither produces fewer than 0.482 yards per play.
  • Naturally, chunk plays are abundant when the Seminoles and Cardinals take the field. FSU sits in the 84th percentile in explosive play rate, via Game on Paper, and UofL occupies the 97th percentile.
  • Neither defense can stop the pass whatsoever. Coordinator Tony White’s Florida State group ranks in the fourth percentile in explosive throws and the 25th percentile in dropback EPA; Mark Ivey and Steve Elliss’ unit is in the second and 13th, respectively.
  • Louisville can get going in a hurry on offense, averaging 26.8 seconds between plays (Fourth and Short). Florida State’s figure is a second behind at 27.8.
  • The Cardinals’ 6.38 yards per rush sits seventh nationally. Florida State is 17th at 5.91.
  • Entering Friday’s play, Louisville’s 0.09 EPA/play surrendered is 88th out of 138 programs (36th percentile). Florida State is even worse at 0.11 (32nd percentile).

Florida State vs. Louisville Picks, Player Stats for PrizePicks: 10/9/26

Here are the top Florida State vs. Louisville picks to target on Friday, October 9. Today’s college football picks for PrizePicks include QBs Ashton Daniels and Lincoln Kienholz.

Florida State QB Ashton Daniels vs. Louisville: 263.5 Pass + Rush Yards

  • Five games into his FSU career, Daniels has averaged 277.8 combined passing and rushing yards each time out.
  • The fifth-year man leads the ACC with a staggering ledger of 15.9 yards per completion, and his 9.6 yards per attempt underscores his penchant for the big play as a passer.
  • Daniels has an ACC-best 9 rushing TDs and is producing a career-high 4.94 yards after contact per attempt, courtesy of Pro Football Focus. He’s forced 14 missed tackles after managing just 7 on 6 more tries in 2025.
  • The gap in the trenches is significant. Florida State ranks in the 78th percentile in line yards, whereas Louisville’s defense slots into the fourth percentile. That could lead to Daniels having either more time to throw, better lanes to run through, or both.
