Dylan Harper Rookie Debut Patch Pulled: The Story Behind the $2.8M Grail

After his lunch on Thursday, Oct. 29, Cam from Texas sat down for a bathroom break. Before he stood up and flushed, he became the owner of a one-of-one Dylan Harper rookie card worth $2.88 million.

From his phone, Cam ripped a $25 Hoops pack on PrizePicks Packs and pulled the 2025-26 Topps Chrome Update Dylan Harper Rookie NBA Debut Patch Auto 1/1. It's the biggest pull in PrizePicks Packs history.

After briefly keeping it in his Locker, Cam sold it back to PrizePicks at 100% of fair market value, and $2,880,000 landed in his PrizePicks balance. Because he sold the Harper 1/1 back, new high-value cards will be added to potential Grail pulls.

Three multimillion-dollar Grails are still out there in PrizePicks Packs, though, including the $8 million Cooper Flagg Rookie Debut Patch Auto.

After making the sale, Cam sat down with PrizePicks to talk through pulling a card that will change his life. Here's how it happened, in his own words.

"It Does Exist": How Cam Pulled the $2.8M Dylan Harper 1/1 From a $25 PrizePicks Pack

Note: Cam asked us to keep his full name private to protect his family.

Cam joined PrizePicks during the 2026 NBA Finals, before Packs ever launched, but he's also a lifelong collector who buys at his shop: Pokémon, Magic, and every major sport.

When PrizePicks Packs launched on Oct. 21, it was a natural transition to rip some packs on his phone.

"I saw a pop-up when I was opening up the app. I think I was going to make a lineup or something, and I saw the packs. I was like, 'Oh, cool. I've always wanted to try this.’” Cam said of the new digital rips platform on PrizePicks. “I started ripping a few things with the balance that I had in my account already, and it was super seamless. It was easy."

Ripping Packs at Lunch, Then the Bathroom

On Oct. 29, Cam's son, who's also a card collector, came over for lunch. Between bites, Cam showed him how Packs works. They ripped Football, Hoops, and Pokémon packs and pulled a few cards, hitting a few, but nothing crazy.

Then his son went back upstairs, and Cam went where physical packs should never be ripped — the bathroom. That left only one option — more PrizePicks Packs.

"I did what any dude would do after lunch: I go to the bathroom and sit on the toilet for a little bit,” Cam said. “Whenever I do that, of course you've got to have your phone, and of course you've got to have PrizePicks. That's when I started opening up the packs."

He stuck with Hoops, moving between $10, $25, and the occasional $50 pack. But he said $25 “felt really good for some reason,” so he stuck with it for a while, pulling GOAT, Legendary, and MVP cards — the tiers best for pulling higher-value cards. But he was just getting started.

The $2.8 Million Rip

Still sitting on the toilet, he eventually noticed one rip looked different after he swiped to open the pack.

"It just seemed like it was different from all the other rips,” Cam said. “You're seeing the white, the silver, the gold, the red, and then you see this purplish. I'm immediately like, 'No way, dude. It is there. It does exist.’”

The reveal almost slid past it, as PrizePicks Packs collectors may be familiar with in the animation while opening their packs.

"It did that thing where you thought it was going to go by it, and then it clicks back, and boom: Grail,” Cam said. “Did I expect to see an NBA Debut Patch? Absolutely not. It blew my mind."

Cam had been hunting for an NBA Debut Patch card since the first ones came out. Now he had the Harper 1/1 sitting in his Locker on PrizePicks Packs.

"Dude, Look at This!"

Cam washed his hands in a hurry and ran upstairs, banging on his son’s door so loudly that his wife thought something was wrong and “the house was falling apart.”

"Dude, look at this!" Cam said to his son, showing him the phone screen with the PrizePicks app pulled up. Cam’s son saw it, and his jaw dropped — he knew exactly what he was looking at.

"At this point, I'm shaking. I'm starting to shake just talking about it again,” Cam said. “I'm like, 'Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.'"

While his wife tried to read the card in the app, Cam tried his best to explain, the only way he knew how: recalling his chase to get a Debut Patch card and just how much money Harper’s was worth — a life-changing amount of money.

"To actually get one, and to get one of the best ones, oh man, it was surreal, dude,” Cam said. “I don't really have the words to describe it. It was awesome."

Sell It or Ship It? Inside Cam's $2.88 Million Decision

Every pull on PrizePicks Packs gives you a choice: sell it back instantly at 100% of fair market value, or keep it in your Locker and ship it home. Cam didn't rush it. He put the card in his Locker first. He still needed to let the emotions of what just happened truly wash over him.

"I took some screenshots of it and everything. Just really thinking, 'Dude, is this real? Did I seriously just pull this card?'” Cam said. “Just put it in the locker for a second, look at it, and really be in the moment. 'Wow, I really did just hit this?'"

Keeping it was tempting. He's a Spurs fan, and he'd thought about having the card shipped so he could hold it. He even considered offering it to Dylan Harper himself; remember, the Mavericks offered 31 years of season tickets and a signed game-worn Flagg rookie jersey as part of a bigger package to secure Flagg’s Debut Patch card to the collector who pulled it.

"It's his best card ever, and I think the athletes should have an opportunity to have their best card ever,” Cam said. “I'd reach out to him personally and be like, 'Look, dude, look what I got. It's yours if you want it.'"

Instead, Cam and his wife took some time to process before making the next move. They grabbed food and went to his office, away from the kids and the noise, to make a plan.

He ultimately decided to sell the card back at 100% of fair market value, and $2,880,000 hit his PrizePicks balance.

What does he plan to do with the $2.8 million now that it’s been paid out? It’s simple.

"Obviously, be smart, take care of the family, invest… really just be smart.”

Is the Dylan Harper Debut Patch Still On PrizePicks Packs?

Now that Cam has sold it back, the Harper 1/1 will be rotated out of possible Grail pulls on PrizePicks Packs to make way for another top Grail for collectors to pull, with at least a $50,000 value.

Is PrizePicks Packs Legit? Cam's Take

The card is real: a Topps 1/1, graded by PSA, that sold at public auction before it went into PrizePicks Packs. The collector is real, too. Cam sat down to chat with our team the day after his pull. And the money is real, too: $2,880,000 added to his PrizePicks balance instantly.

Cam's message to anyone who doesn’t know what to think about the new PrizePicks Packs? Believe the hype.

"I would tell them to trust it, to believe it,” Cam said. “Is it common to hit a Grail? Absolutely not. Is it common to hit GOAT, Legendary? Yeah, I've hit it several times … Everything you want, [PrizePicks is] offering. It's really fun … It's the real deal."

Every pack shows its odds and possible Grails before you buy, so you know exactly what your shot is at pulling a high-value card. Learn more about how digital rips and repacks work, which relate to how PrizePicks Packs works.

What's Next for Cam? Looking for a LeBron James Rookie

Cam sold the $2.88 million card, but Harper rookies still have a spot in Cam’s personal collection, and he’s looking to get a Harper jersey as he enters his second NBA season.

As for cards, Cam already knows which Grail he wants next for his personal collection.

“I would really like to get a LeBron James rookie, one of those grails,” Cam said. “I wouldn’t sell that one.”

He may go looking for that one on PrizePicks Packs. After years of hobby shops and retail packs, Cam says he prefers ripping packs digitally for a few simple reasons:

“You don’t have to worry about all the bulk and everything that comes along with collecting cards. So I do like [the PrizePicks] approach better.”
