Commanders vs. Eagles Prediction, Spread, Over/Under for Week 1 – Sunday, September 13

Entering the 2026 season, PrizePicks gives the Commanders a 1.58x payout to reach 7+ wins, while the Eagles feature a 1.58x payout for 10+ wins. Further, Philadelphia has the shortest payout to win the NFC East (2.17x), closely followed by the Cowboys (2.17x).

Adding to the injury woes, DT Jer’Zhan Newton and CB Trey Amos are on injured reserve, while EDGE Dorance Armstrong is suspended for one game.

After yielding an unsightly 0.152 EPA per play (31st) last year, Washington’s defense underwent an overhaul — mainly in the front seven. EDGE Odafe Oweh, EDGE K’Lavon Chaisson, DT Tim Settle, and LB Leo Chanel were all free agency additions. Further, the Commanders spent the #7 pick on rookie LB Sonny Styles.

After being limited participants throughout practice this week, Oweh and Chaisson were both cleared for Sunday.

Washington needs all the help it can get against the Eagles’ offense line, which finished fourth in Pro Football Focus’ pass block grade (74.1) in 2025. However, Philly made changes on offense, trading WR A.J. Brown to the Patriots, paired with WR Jahan Dotson signing with the Falcons.

The Eagles signed WRs Dontayvion Wicks and Marquise Brown and drafted rookie WR Makai Lemon with the #20 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. 

Philly LB Nakobe Dean (Raiders) and EDGE Jaelen Phillips (Panthers) each found new homes in the offseason. The Eagles’ main addition to shore up this area was trading for Vikings EDGE Jonathan Greenard — who is inactive (pectoral) today.

In the 2025 season, the Eagles limited teams to 19.6 PPG (sixth-fewest) and 5.0 yards per play (eighth-fewest). According to RBSDM, Philly conceded only -0.051 EPA per play (ninth) and a 42.5% success rate (10th).

One could argue this 2026 defense will be even better, elevated by the signing of CB Tariq Woolen. While he started in only seven games for the Seahawks last season, he generated 11 INTs from 2022 to 2024. 

Philadelphia was already generating 1.3 takeaways per game (11th) a season ago, and now add a ball-hawking corner. CB Quinyon Mitchell has established himself as one of the league’s premier CB1s, earning All-Pro honors in 2025.

Eagles LB Jihaad Campbell enters his second season following a strong rookie campaign, where he logged 62 solo tackles with only 6 missed tackles (ninth) on the season. The interior defensive line remains elite, anchored by DT Jalen Carter’s 8 QB hits (11th) last season.

Frankly, this is a tough test for the Commanders’ offense, which will be without Tunsil. Washington gave up a 7.31% sack rate (19th), paired with a mediocre 63% pass block win rate (18th) in 2025, per ESPN.

Jayden Daniels may struggle with time in the pocket, and Mitchell is fully capable of erasing Washington’s WR1, Terry McLaurin. If that’s the case, that means the Commanders could rely on Diggs and rookie Williams to generate yards.

We can’t ignore Washington yielding 0.026 EPA per rushing attempt (28th) last year. This is a new-look front seven, and that could mean growing pains — especially when the rookie Styles anchors the unit at middle linebacker. 

Philly had a 47.5% rush-play rate (sixth) a season ago, paired with 28.6 rushing attempts per game (eighth).
