Buccaneers vs. Cowboys Prediction, Spread, Over/Under for Thursday Night Football – 10/8/26

After being in the underdog role in back-to-back games, the Cowboys are a clear 7.5-point favorite for the spread at home for Thursday Night Football. Due to Dallas’ nature for high-scoring games, tonight’s 48.5 over/under is the Buccaneers’ second-highest total of the season.

Here are the full payouts for the Buccaneers vs. Cowboys on PrizePicks, including winner payouts, the spread, and the over/under. PrizePicks data is live at the time of writing and is subject to change.

Following a back-and-forth affair in a 33-27 loss vs. the Bengals to open the season, the Buccaneers’ 0-4 start has progressively gotten worse. In Week 2, Tampa Bay fell 23-19 as 8.5-point favorites vs. the Browns.

Then injuries hit, beginning in Week 3’s 23-16 loss vs. the Vikings with Bucs QB Baker Mayfield suffering a thumb injury, which is expected to keep him out for a few weeks. In last week’s 17-14 loss to the Packers, one of the defense’s best players, S Antoine Winfield Jr., sustained a rib fracture and will be out for two to four weeks.

The Buccaneers at least got some good injury news for Thursday Night Football, as rookie EDGE Rueben Bain (groin/shoulder) is active alongside rookie LB Josiah Trotter (knee) — who is off to an excellent start.

Tampa Bay will need all the defensive help it can get against this Cowboys offense that logs 30.5 PPG (second), 0.196 EPA per play (third), and a 48.9% success rate (fourth), per RBSDM. Further, Dallas’ 3.39 points per drive is the fifth-best mark through the first four games of a season since 2000.

This unit could get even better with three-time Pro Bowl G Tyler Smith (thumb) making his season debut after beginning 2026 on injured reserve.

The offense has a ton of pressure, as the Cowboys’ defense continues to stumble by allowing 28.0 PPG (28th) and 6.4 yards per play (32nd). Dallas LB DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring) and CB Cobie Durant (hamstring) remain out tonight, though newly acquired CB Joey Porter Jr. could see his 45.5% snap rate from Week 4 increase.

The Cowboys’ defensive struggles give hope for the Buccaneers to keep pace. The unit will be led by undrafted rookie QB Jalon Daniels for the second consecutive game. Daniels tallied 148 passing yards, 1 passing TD, and 2 INTs vs. the Packers, and he added an element to the run game with 8 carries for 55 rushing yards (6.9 YPC).

Will Tampa Bay score enough points to keep it close in Dallas? Let’s get into our prediction for the spread on Thursday Night Football.

Buccaneers vs. Cowboys Prediction on Spread for Thursday Night Football – 10/8/26

Despite giving up 24.0 PPG (19th), Tampa Bay’s defense hasn’t been that bad. In fact, giving up only 5.0 yards per play (sixth) and a 40.4% success rate (sixth) suggests positive regression is ahead.

The Buccaneers have done a terrific job of holding opponents to only 3.2 yards per carry (second) and a 33.3% rush success rate (fourth), anchored by DT Vita Vea and rookie LB Josiah Trotter. However, the Cowboys feature the best offensive line Tampa Bay has seen up to this point — especially with G Tyler Smith back in the lineup.

Thanks to an excellent start from LT Tyler Guyton, Dallas has a 52% pass block win rate (13th), per ESPN. However, we can’t ignore its 68% run block win rate (31st), yet the Bucs hold only a 28% run stop win rate (23rd).

If Smith’s return drastically improves the Cowboys’ run blocking, which is certainly possible as one of the NFL’s best guards, this offense could be unstoppable tonight. According to PrizePicks, Cowboys RB Javonte Williams is projected for 70.5 rush yards and 17.5 rush attempts vs. the Buccaneers.

The ground game should be aided by seeing light boxes all night, as the passing game features a 51.7% dropback success rate (seventh) alongside QB Dak Prescott boasting 0.347 adjusted EPA per play (third).

On the flip side, Tampa Bay is averaging 2.3 turnovers per game (third-most), and that could become even worse with rookie QB Jalon Daniels under center. Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ offense logs only 0.5 turnovers per contest (third-fewest).

Fortunately, the Bucs still have one of the best offensive lines in football, putting this run game front and center — especially with Daniels’ legs involved. Simply put, Tampa Bay must dominate the run game if it's to stay close on the road.

Dallas’ 51.6% success rate allowed (31st) on defense is easy to knock, but it held the Texans to 62 rushing yards on 19 attempts (3.3 YPC) in Week 4. Plus, Joey Porter Jr. getting more snaps could make a difference, as he didn’t allow 1 catch in his Cowboys debut.

Through four games, Tampa Bay is 0-4 against the spread (ATS), compared to Dallas covering three consecutive games.

An improved run game could be at the forefront for the Cowboys tonight, as G Tyler Smith returns from injury. If Dallas is running the rock effectively while winning the turnover battle, the Buccaneers are likely in store for a long night.
