Barcelona vs. Real Betis Prediction, Picks for La Liga – Sunday, May 17

Neither team has much left to achieve this season, as their places in the La Liga table are official. Barcelona clinched the title with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid last weekend, while Real Betis ensured a fifth-place finish thanks to their 2-1 win over Elche this past Tuesday.

Barcelona does have one achievement left to pursue. A win on Sunday over Real Betis would give them 19 home victories in 19 home matches in La Liga play — something no club has ever achieved in the history of the competition.

After rotating a fair amount in their 1-0 loss to Deportivo Alaves on Wednesday, Hansi Flick is expected to start a strong lineup as he chases perfection. That means the return of CMs Pedro and Gavi to the middle of the park.

ST Robert Lewandowski announced on Saturday that he will be officially leaving the club on a free transfer after the season ends and will likely start as a result. RW Raphinha is also back after his suspension mid-week and should start.

RW Lamine Yamal and CM Frenkie de Jong are two notable absences for Barcelona. LW Marcus Rashford also may miss out after picking up a knock midweek. That said, Barcelona’s depth is more than adequate.

Real Betis will be without multiple players. Both ST Cucho Hernandez and CB Diego Llorente are suspended due to yellow-card accumulation, while CB Marc Bartra continues to miss out due to a foot injury. RB Aitor Ruibal is also absent, recovering from a season-ending knee injury.

The visitors are no pushovers. Real Betis has the fourth-most shots on target in La Liga this season, and they sit fifth in the league with 24 points on the road. However, they’ve managed just 24 goals in their 18 away fixtures.

They've excelled at limiting opponents' opportunities, allowing an average of just 3.75 shots on target per game over their last eight away La Liga matches.

Barcelona will test that defense early and often. They continue to swarm their opponents, averaging 8.6 passes per defensive action, which has led to 278 high turnovers.

That could also be how Real Betis keeps things close or steals a result. They rank fourth in high turnovers forced, turning 7 of those into goals this season — the third-most in the league behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.

If they can force those turnovers against that high Barcelona back line, Real Betis could end the perfect home run for the Blaugrana.

That might be what it takes for them to also breach a Barcelona defense that has conceded just 1 goal in their last four La Liga home outings and has kept a clean sheet in seven of their last 10 at home.

Here are the key stats and trends behind our Barcelona vs. Real Betis prediction on total goals for Sunday, May 17.

Lock in your Barcelona vs. Real Betis prediction on PrizePicks before match start.
  • Barcelona have been playing much more pragmatically of late. They’ve held 70% possession in four of their last six La Liga outings — a mark they achieved in only nine of the previous 24 league fixtures.
  • As a result, Barcelona have limited the counterattacks against their high line, as they’ve kept a clean sheet in five of their last 10 league outings while conceding just 6 goals in that span.
  • Barcelona have also scored just 7 goals in their last five La Liga matches, a far cry from the 2.71 goals per match in the first 31 matches.
  • Only one of Barcelona’s last eight La Liga fixtures has featured more than 3 goals scored.
  • Barcelona averages 7.3 shots on target per home match in La Liga, which is 1.5 more shots than they total on the road.
  • There have been fewer than 4 goals scored in 15 of Real Betis’ last 18 La Liga fixtures.
  • Real Betis defend extremely well, ranking fifth in tackles won and third in interceptions in away fixtures with 9.3 per match.

Barcelona vs. Real Betis Player Picks, Stats for PrizePicks – 5/17/26

Here are two Barcelona vs. Real Betis picks to target on players for Sunday, May 17. Today’s La Liga picks for PrizePicks are headlined by Robert Lewandowski and Antony.

Barcelona ST Robert Lewandowski vs. Real Betis: 14.5 Passes Attempted

  • Over his last 10 home La Liga fixtures, Robert Lewandowski has averaged 19.3 passes per 90 minutes.
  • He played at least 60 minutes in seven of those matches. In those seven outings, he reached 15+ passes on five occasions.
  • Lewandowski did not feature in the reverse fixture, but Ferran Torres attempted 24 passes in Barcelona’s 5-3 win at Real Betis on December 6, 2025.
  • With the Polish striker playing at the Camp Nou for the final time, there’s a strong chance his teammates will be looking to feed him the ball for a goal early and often. This may lead to more opportunities for him to play it back to teammates as he looks to get into a good shooting position.
  • The fact that it’s Lewandowski’s final match also makes it a stronger possibility that he will play at least an hour on Sunday.
Add Robert Lewandowski to your PrizePicks Lineup now.

Real Betis RW Antony vs. Barcelona: 1.5 Shots

  • Antony attempted at least 2 shots in four straight La Liga outings for Real Betis.
  • The Brazilian winger has attempted 83 shots in 30 La Liga fixtures, the eighth-most of any player in the competition. That has resulted in an average of 3.21 shots per 90 minutes played.
  • Antony scored the opening goal in the reverse fixture, 1 of 4 shots he attempted in 75 minutes on the pitch.
  • Barcelona LB Joao Cancelo often pushes up in attack, leaving space down opponents’ right flanks for counterattacks. That works perfectly for Antony, who loves to get into space before cutting inside and attempting curled back-post shots with his left foot.
Add Antony to your PrizePicks Lineup now.
