Timberwolves SG Anthony Edwards has missed the last two games with a right foot injury sustained vs. the Suns back on Dec. 8. Minnesota’s superstar is listed as questionable for tonight’s matchup vs the Grizzlies.

Edwards has taken yet another step forward in his career in 2025, averaging 28.7 points per game, good for eighth in the NBA.

Let’s take a look at the latest Anthony Edwards injury update and go over another Timberwolves player who could see an increase in production should Ant-Man sit for the third straight game. We’ll also look at some PrizePicks NBA picks and analysis for Wednesday night.

Anthony Edwards Injury Update vs. Grizzlies Tonight

Minnesota head coach Chris Finch said that Edwards went “through player development but was not active in practice.” He officially declared him day-to-day while mentioning that Edwards’ foot “just hasn’t calmed down to the point where he’s able to go.”

The normally durable Edwards has already missed six games this season, four of which came earlier in the year with a right hamstring strain.

Over the last three seasons, Edwards has played in 79, 78, and 79 games, making his choppy start to this season all the more frustrating for him and fantasy owners alike.

Minnesota has managed to go 4-2 without their leading scorer in the lineup this year, with their most impressive win without him coming on the road at Golden State on Dec. 12.

The main improvement for Edwards’ in what’s currently his career-best year has come via his efficiency, upping his field goal percentage from 44.7% last year to a career high 50.1%.

That increase in efficiency can also be seen in his 3-point percentage. By taking smarter shots, he has decreased his 3-point attempts from 10.3 last year to 8.1 this year, but is hitting 41.6% compare to 39.5% last year.

It’s worth noting that following tonight’s game vs. the Grizzlies, the Timberwolves play a marquee game at home vs. the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder. It’s just speculation, but perhaps both Finch and Edwards have their eyes set on two more days of rest before that matchup on Friday.

If Edwards were to sit, we’d likely see SG Bones Hyland remain in the starting lineup, with the backcourt minutes likely to go to whoever gets the hot hand between him, Terrance Shannon Jr, or Rob Dillingham.

But the largest beneficiary of Edwards’ absence would likely be Wolves co-star PF Julius Randle.

Who Would Benefit With Anthony Edwards Out?

In the games that Anthony Edwards has missed this year, Randle has seen the biggest boost in all-around usage.

Randle, known for his versatility, is averaging 23.1 points and 7.3 rebounds this year to go along with 5.8 assists. All three numbers are increases from last year’s averages, where he averaged 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.

According to Add More Funds, with Edwards on the court, Randle has a 26.1% usage rate and 9.9% total rebound percentage. With Edwards off the court, those numbers rise to 29% and 10.6%, respectively.

Furthermore, Randle posts 28.0 points per 100 possessions with Edwards on the court. That number balloons to a gargantuan 38.0 when Edwards is off the court.

Randle is projected for 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists vs. the Grizzlies on PrizePicks.

Two other players who see a noticeable bump in usage rate without Edwards on the court are Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid. Without Edwards on the floor, McDaniels’ usage rate jumps from 19.6% to 22.6%, while Reid’s goes up from 19.7% to 24.3%.

McDaniels is projected for 15.5 points vs. the Grizzlies tonight on PrizePicks NBA, while Reid is projected for 14.5 points.
