Anthony Edwards Injury Update: Is Edwards Playing Tonight vs. Nuggets in Game 3?
Edwards is officially listed as questionable for Thursday’s game vs. Denver, per the daily NBA injury report.
In recent weeks, there’s been some clarity provided regarding Edwards’ knee ailment. It’s akin to runner’s knee, which can flare up during games, leading to “injury maintenance” now being his description in the report.
Edwards appeared in 61 games during the regular season, averaging 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 48.9% shooting from the field and 39.9% from 3-point land. He’s managed to play in each Wolves postseason matchup thus far, even with some discomfort.
The superstar guard didn’t quite look like himself in Game 1, putting up 22 points but taking 19 shots to get there. He rebounded in Game 2, pouring in 30 points and 10 boards while racking up 3 stocks (steals and blocks) in a thrilling 119-114 victory.
As the Timberwolves continue to keep an eye on Edwards, you can make picks on his PrizePicks projections if he does play. Popular Anthony Edwards projections include 28.5 Points, 6 Rebounds, 3.5 Assists (Goblin), 39.5 Pts + Rebs + Asts, and more.
What Players to Target on PrizePicks if Edwards Is Out?
Simply put, it’d be a surprise if Edwards wasn’t available for Thursday night’s clash in Minneapolis. Given his toughness and previous participation in the series, this feels like more of a precaution for Minnesota.
If Edwards somehow did miss Thursday’s Game 3, the Timberwolves’ offense could drastically shift in efficiency. Without Edwards on the court during the regular season, the offense dropped 5.2 points in rating.
With guards Jaylen Clark and Terrence Shannon Jr. both also questionable due to illnesses, the Minnesota rotation desperately needs Edwards. There is some talent elsewhere, however, that might be capable of picking up the slack.
As far as guards are concerned, trade deadline acquisition Ayo Dosunmu may be the go-to man. Per databallr, his usage rate spikes by 4.5% without Edwards. At the SF position, Jaden McDaniels’ usage increases by 4.0%.
The go-to guy in Edwards-less minutes, however, is PF Julius Randle. When his counterpart is on the bench, he scores 6.0 more points per 75 possessions and experiences a 5.6% hike in true shooting clip.
Here are the Timberwolves players who may benefit most on PrizePicks if Edwards is out, as well as their stat projections for tonight.
- Ayo Dosunmu vs. Nuggets Projections: 11.5 Points / 3 Rebounds / 3 Assists
- Jaden McDaniels vs. Nuggets Projections: 15 Points / 4 Rebounds / 2.5 Assists
- Julius Randle vs. Nuggets Projections: 19.5 Points / 6.5 Rebounds / 4.5 Assists
If Edwards does sit out Thursday’s pivotal bout, Randle could be forced into a solo leading role on offense.
