Miami enters 2026 with enormous expectations after reaching the College Football Playoff National Championship last season and falling to Indiana 27-21.

The Hurricanes will have a new QB under center in Duke transfer Darian Mensah. Mensah threw for 3,973 yards and 34 TDs last season, finishing second nationally in passing yards and establishing himself as one of the top players in the country.

Unlike most new QBs, Mensah will have a level of familiarity with one of his main weapons, as Duke transfer WR Cooper Barkate comes over after having 72 receptions, 1,106 yards, and 7 TDs with the Blue Devils last season. Miami also returns superstar WR Malachi Toney, who exploded for 1,211 yards and 10 TDs in 2025.

With the offense expected to be just as lethal, it’s yet to be seen how HC Mario Cristobal will replace DE Ruben Bain Jr. and DE Akheem Mesidor, two of the most dominant pass rushers who combined for 150 pressures last season.

Stanford opened 2026 with a 37-27 win over Hawaii, producing nearly 500 total yards of offense. Michigan transfer QB Davis Warren threw for 310 yards and a TD, while RB Micah Ford rushed for 99 yards and 3 TDs on 25 carries.

This is an offense that will likely be built around Ford, although his matchup against a dominant Miami DL will certainly be a test.

DC Kris Richard had his Stanford boys balling in Week 1, but it remains to be seen how they'll perform against elite competition. Last year’s Stanford defense struggled mightily against the deep ball but performed well against Hawaii, holding QB Micah Alejado to just 5-of-14 passing on balls thrown 10+ yards downfield.
