The 49ers look like one of the best teams in the NFL as one of three remaining undefeated teams.
This comes after questions surrounded the team before Week 1. Injuries plagued them during training camp, but aside from EDGE Nick Bosa and S Marques Sigle, their key players have been on the field. Even without Bosa, they still have a stellar pass rush, ranking seventh in quarterback pressure rate (31.6%).
Overall, this is a top-tier defense so far, allowing the third-fewest points per game (16.0) and yards per play (4.8).
However, the offense may be even better, ranking third in points per game (30.5). The unit shows an almost-perfect balance of passing and rushing efficiency. The Niners are one of three teams ranked in the top 11 in both passing and rushing yards per game.
In the run game, it is no longer just RB Christian McCaffrey dominating touches; rookie third-rounder Kaelon Black is highly involved with 31 carries compared to McCaffrey’s 50. This tandem is set up to keep McCaffrey fresh and avoid having him touch the ball 300+ times, as he did in past seasons.
QB Brock Purdy controls this offense, and the former Mr. Irrelevant may add MVP to his title. In fact, PrizePicks gives Purdy a 4.16x payout to win the MVP Award (second-shortest).
He’s been among the league’s most efficient quarterbacks, leading the league in passer rating (126.2) and EPA per dropback (+0.53). A brick wall for an offensive line gives him time; Purdy faces pressure at a lower rate than any quarterback in the NFL (23.8%) and has yet to be sacked this season.
Despite being the defending champions and playing at home in front of one of football's rowdiest fan bases, the Seahawks still feel pressure.
At times, they’ve been missing QB Sam Darnold, RB Zach Charbonnet, and first-round rookie RB Jadarian Price, yet they're still playing well.
It helps when Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba is out there running routes. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year remains one of the top pass catchers, leading the NFL in receiving TDs (6) and third in receiving yards (481).
This defense is helping carry an injury-plagued offense. The unit remains largely intact from last season, with only one starter departing. Once again, they are one of the top units, leading the league in yards allowed per game (246.8), second in EPA allowed per play (-0.20), and fifth in points allowed per game (18.3).
This game pits two division rivals against each other, and both teams can beat you on either side of the ball, so it could go down to the wire.
