2026 Masters Round 3 Preview & Round 2 Leaderboard
McIlroy (-12) got off to a hot start in Round 2, with birdies on three of his first holes to expand his lead. That disappeared when McIlroy recorded a bogey on the 10th hole and 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed birdied the par-3 12th hole to force a tie on Augusta’s back nine.
McIlroy shifted gears and birdied holes 12, 13, 15 through 18, including a 30-yard chip-in from off the green on 17 to put himself in the driver’s seat entering the weekend.
Round 1 co-leader Sam Burns followed up his career-low Round 1 with a 1-under 71, and is tied with Reed in second place at 6-under par.
A group that includes two major champions, Justin Rose and Shane Lowry, along with 2025 FedExCup champion Tommy Fleetwood are tied for fourth at 5-under.
Each of the last 14 Masters winners was in the top-7 or better after 36 holes — a testament to the importance of course history at Augusta. McIlroy was in third place after the second round en route to his win last year.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, the pre-tournament favorite, posted his first over-par round at Augusta in three years. He now sits at even par for the tournament, 12 shots back of McIlroy.
Of the top 10 favorites to win the Masters coming into the first round, Jon Rahm (+4) had an improved Round 2 and made the cut on the number, while Bryson DeChambeau (+6) triple-bogeyed the final hole and will be headed home for the weekend.
Other notables missing the cut include last year’s U.S. Open champion J.J Spaun, who won last week, and Min Woo Lee, who shot a 77 in Round 2.
