With the Super Bowl officially in the books, NFL teams begin shifting their focus towards how to improve their respective rosters. The Arizona Cardinals could be a franchise that chooses to move on from QB Kyler Murray this offseason.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reported that growing expectation around the league is Murray will be traded or released by mid-March due to the financial terms of his contract. He's slated to have guarantees of nearly $40 million; if the Cardinals trade him before June 1, they'd save $34.7M on the 2026 salary cap.
Will the Cardinals trade Kyler Murray? Let's dive into that, as well as some of the most likely possible destinations for Murray on PrizePicks Team Picks. With Team Picks, you can predict game winners, spreads, over/unders, and futures and earn real-money rewards if you're right.

Will Cardinals Trade Kyler Murray? Potential Landing Spots
Here are three potential landing spots for Murray should the Cardinals decide to trade the veteran QB. Among the top options are the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, and New York Jets.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are one NFL franchise that could be evaluating all of its options when it comes to the QB position.
The team allowed QB Sam Darnold to walk in free agency last offseason, and Darnold ended up winning a Super Bowl as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy had his chance to lead the offense but had a lackluster de facto rookie campaign, completing just 57.6% of his passes for 1,632 yards to go along with 11 TDs and 12 INTs.
It’s hard to imagine Minnesota giving up on McCarthy after just one season, but bringing in another signal-caller may not be out of the question. After all, the Vikings did shake up their front office when GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was fired from his post after four seasons.
After a 9-8 effort in 2025, head coach Kevin O’Connell could have interest in bringing a versatile QB like Murray to help compete in the NFC North. It may not cost any more than a Day 2 or 3 NFL Draft pick, considering that teams know Murray could be available.
Indianapolis Colts
The QB spot remains somewhat uncertain for the Colts as the 2026 offseason commences.
Indianapolis signed veteran QB Daniel Jones to a one-year, $14M contract, and he competed with 2023 first-round pick Anthony Richardson in training camp. Jones ended up winning the starting job and ultimately had a very successful campaign before suffering a season-ending torn Achilles in December.
It’s unclear if the Colts would be comfortable bringing back Jones for another stint. If they’re looking to go a different route, Murray could be an option.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen had a tremendous amount of success when he served as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator and had dual-threat QB Jalen Hurts at his disposal. Indianapolis may be intrigued by the offensive upside of a signal-caller like Murray, who's rushed for 3,193 yards and 32 TDs in his seven NFL seasons.
New York Jets
It’s been a revolving door at QB for the Jets recently.
After the Aaron Rodgers experiment failed, they chose to sign Justin Fields to a two-year, $40M contract in free agency in 2025. However, Fields led the Jets to just a 2-7 record in nine games and had a career-low 6.2 yards per completion.
Fields was criticized by Jets owner Woody Johnson after an 0-7. He ended up being benched for the team’s Week 12 game against the New England Patriots in favor of Tyrod Taylor. Fields was ultimately placed on injured reserve in late December due to knee soreness, ending his season.
With Fields’ future less than certain, the Jets could be looking for another dual-threat QB to take the reins.
Fields did run the ball on 71 occasions in nine games, so an athletic field general may likely appeal to the kind of offense that the Jets want to run. Murray would also have star WR Garrett Wilson and second-year TE Mason Taylor to throw the ball to.
