Tyler Herro Injury Update vs. Raptors Tonight
Per the NBA’s official injury report on Tuesday afternoon, Herro is listed as probable for the evening with a designation for right foot soreness.
It’s been a tough year for Herro, who missed the first 17 games of the season as he recovered from offseason foot surgery. The one-time All-Star made his season debut on November 24, although he managed to play in just five straight games before getting banged up again.
Toe, rib, and quadriceps injuries have held Herro either out of the lineup or limited him a bit when on the court. The 13th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft sat out Saturday’s 152-136 win over the Washington Wizards, albeit for personal reasons.
Despite playing just 30 games this season, Herro’s been a model of efficiency. He’s pouring in 21.4 points each night for Miami, doing so on a career-high 48.1% shooting from the field. He’s also making 38.2% of his 3-pointers and canning 92.3% of free throw attempts.
Tyler Herro & Heat Outlook vs. Raptors on Tuesday
Elsewhere for the Heat, multiple others are expected to be available. While PF Nikola Jovic (ankle) is out, the duo of SG-SF Norman Powell (available, reconditioning) and F Andrew Wiggins (available, toe) could provide a boost.
Metrically, the jury is out on what Herro’s impact could be. Per databallr, Miami performs just 1.2 points better with him on the floor, but the team is 5.2 points worse on defense. His -4.0 net on-off is fourth-worst among Heat rotation players with at least 800 minutes.
Nonetheless, that scoring punch is much needed against Toronto. The Heat can’t afford to lose games if they want any chance of gaining ground in the play-in picture.
As things currently stand, Miami is 1.5 games back of the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Orlando Magic, all of whom own 43-36 records.
With Herro and Co. likely back in business, that bodes well for Miami against a tough Raptors team that sits sixth in a tight-knit East race.
