Rashee Rice Injury Update: Will Rice Play This Week vs. Seahawks?
Rice originally injured his hamstring in the Chiefs’ 30-27 win against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4. The veteran WR didn’t practice on Wednesday and Thursday leading up to Week 7.
Despite Rice missing practice, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Rice is making progress earlier this week.
“Rashee is getting better as we go by the day, so that helps,” Reid said on Wednesday.
After missing two practices this week, Rice may be a long shot to suit up in Week 7. If Rice misses K.C.'s Sunday Night Football clash in Seattle , how does that affect fantasy football and Chiefs picks for PrizePicks?
Chiefs Fantasy Football Outlook If Rice Is Out
Rice's last two campaigns have been shortened by injury and suspension. Entering his fourth season, fantasy football managers still expect Rice to be one of the league’s top pass catchers.
The Chiefs WR had a WR14 average draft position (ADP) and was taken in the third round of most PPR drafts this past summer, per FantasyPros.
In four games this season, Rice has hauled in 13 passes for 190 yards and a TD. The former second-round pick caught a combined 11 passes for 171 yards in consecutive games against the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins in Weeks 2 and 3.
While the sample size is limited, Rice has averaged 11.8 yards per target (11th among WRs), according to PlayerProfiler. Additionally, he's racked up 119 yards after the catch, ranking 17th among all receivers.
If Rice stays sidelined, the Chiefs could look to WR Xavier Worthy in the passing game. Worthy has caught 21 passes for 206 yards (9.8 YPC) and a TD this season. He's also seen an uptick in production recently, tallying 70+ receiving yards in each of his last two games.
Week 7 may be a tough matchup against a Seahawks pass defense that's surrendered a league-low 141.3 passing yards per game. Seattle has given up 20.3 PPG (tied for fifth) and -0.060 dropback EPA/play (second), per RBSDM.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ offense has enjoyed success through the air, ranking fourth in EPA/play (0.143) and producing a 49.7% dropback success rate (ninth). Kansas City has also posted a 0.175 dropback EPA/play, which is good for ninth in the sport.
Regardless of whether Rice is available in Week 7, it could still be an uphill battle against a dominant Seahawks secondary.
