Oklahoma vs. Texas Prediction, Preview for Week 7

Dating back to 1900, this will be the 121st time Oklahoma and Texas have faced each other. A whopping 70 of the 120 previous meetings featured one or both sides ranked in the top 25.

The Longhorns lead the series 64-51-5. The Sooners are 7-3 in their last 10, but Texas’ dominant triumphs in 2022 (49-0) and 2024 (34-3) leave some ground to make up.

Oklahoma Sooners Preview

  • Oklahoma’s final season in the Big 12 saw them go out with a bang, racking up a 10-3 record and peaking at No. 5 in the AP poll. Their SEC debut couldn’t have been much more underwhelming, as they posted a 6-7 record in 2024.
  • This campaign has been a lot kinder to the Sooners. They’re a perfect 5-0, including a trio of wins (Illinois State, Temple, and Kent State) with a combined 6 points allowed.
  • The story of the week is the health of star QB John Mateer. Despite undergoing hand surgery on September 25, he’s pushing to play on Saturday. Texas’ availability report lists him as questionable.
  • In Mateer’s absence, backup Michael Hawkins Jr. threw for 162 yards and 3 TDs against the Golden Flashes in Week 6.

Texas Longhorns Preview

  • In each of head coach Steve Sarkisian’s first four years on the job, Texas improved. That trend has reversed from 2024 (13-3) to 2025 (3-2).
  • The preseason No. 1 book ended an impressive 3-0 stretch with losses to Ohio State (14-7) and Florida (29-21) in Weeks 1 and 6, respectively.
  • Defense isn’t an issue for the Longhorns. Per Game on Paper, they rank 11th in EPA/play and 21st in success rate.
  • It’s Texas’ passing attack that’s falling well short of expectations, slotting in at 109th in EPA/play with a 21st-percentile pass explosiveness mark.

Oklahoma vs. Texas Picks for CFB DFS & PrizePicks

Here are three potential Oklahoma vs. Texas picks to consider for Saturday. PrizePicks player projections for Week 7 include QB Arch Manning, WR Ryan Wingo, and K Mason Shipley.

Texas QB Arch Manning Projection: 205.5 Pass Yards

  • After sitting behind QB Quinn Ewers, Manning can’t find his rhythm. The sophomore has completed just 60% of his passes with 11 TDs to 5 INTs in 2025.
  • Manning isn’t helping the Longhorns convert on late downs. According to Game on Paper, their success rate in those situations (35.6%) is in the seventh percentile.
  • Oklahoma’s pass defense is downright suffocating, leading the nation in success rate and total EPA.
  • The former five-star recruit averages 230.2 passing yards per game and ranks 36th out of 139 QBs in yards per dropback (7.71).

Texas WR Ryan Wingo Projection: 44.5 Receiving Yards

  • Wingo, a speedy threat down the field, has doubled his 2024 TD total of 2 in just five games. He’s also up from averaging 29.5 receiving yards per game to 52.6.
  • For some reason, Wingo and Manning haven’t been on the same page. The star WR pales in comparison to teammate Parker Livingstone in catch rate (48% to 62%), as well as EPA/play (-0.01 to 0.27).
  • Saturday might tell whether any continuity is truly forming. Wingo has 166 yards and 3 TDs in his last two games.
  • Oklahoma does a tremendous job limiting vertical profiles, ranking in the 91st percentile in explosive pass plays allowed.

Texas K Mason Shipley Projection: 6.5 Kicking Points

  • Making the jump from the Sun Belt to the SEC wasn’t an issue for Shipley. The Texas State transfer is a perfect 19-for-19 on extra points and 5-for-5 on field goals in 2025.
  • In Texas’ three wins, Shipley averaged 10 points per game. In losses, that number is just 2.
  • Shipley has yet to attempt a field goal of 50-plus yards this season. He has only 4 of those tries in his collegiate career, making 3.
  • The Longhorns rank fifth nationally in average starting field position, but the Sooners rank second in the same stat for opponents.
