The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans are the only teams on a bye during Week 9. Still, there are some concerns at the RB position in fantasy football.

On the injury front, noteworthy names like Patriots star TreVeyon Henderson (illness) and the Giants' Cam Skattebo (hamstring) are trying to work through some things.

As we try to help set lineups, let’s break down our NFL Week 9 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em battle between Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty and Cardinals RB Tyler Allgeier for your fantasy football picks this week.

Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em RBs, Week 9: Ashton Jeanty or Tyler Allgeier?

Who'd be the better pick out of this NFL Week 9 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em dilemma: Jeanty or Allgeier?

Why Start Ashton Jeanty?

Ashton Jeanty PrizePicks Projections vs. 49ers: 27.5 Rush Yards, 35.5 Rec Yards, 0.5 Anytime TDs (Demon)

  • Jeanty received a season-low 2 carries in last week’s 38-33 win over the Jets. Still, he caught 3 of 4 targets for 64 yards.
  • Following the win, Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said that Jeanty will still be a big part of the team moving forward. The backfield workload will be evaluated weekly.
  • Raiders RB Mike Washington Jr. led the team with 25 rushing attempts last week, but he didn't receive a single target. For the season, he's caught 3 of 6 targets for 11 yards.
  • Even if Jeanty receives fewer rushing attempts, he could still be heavily involved in the passing game. He's posted at least 3 receptions and 50 receiving yards in four of his last five games.

Week 9 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Verdict: Start Ashton Jeanty

It would've seemed crazy for this to even be a debate heading into the season.

Jeanty, after all, is a former first-round pick who had over 1,300 total yards and 10 TDs during his rookie season. Allgeier, meanwhile, recorded back-to-back seasons with fewer than 150 rushing attempts and was signed to fill a complementary role behind Love.

Things change quickly in the NFL, though. Jeanty’s evolving role and the injury to Love contribute to a decision that some fantasy managers might be forced to make. The deciding factor may be matchups.

Allgeier figures to have his hands full with the Seahawks, who are 10th in rush EPA/play allowed, according to RBSDM. Their 3.28 YPC allowed to RBs is the second-lowest mark in the NFL.

When these two teams met in Week 2, the trio of Love, Allgeier, and Knight combined for 63 yards on 16 attempts.

Jeanty seeing most of his work in pass-catching situations might not be a bad thing against the 49ers. They limit RBs to 3.59 YPC but have allowed the most receptions to the position (49). That’s despite having already had their bye week.

Jeanty is the better option in PPR leagues and perhaps even in standard formats when factoring in Allgeier’s opponent.

Even with limited carries possibly coming his way in Week 9, Jeanty can still provide fantasy value in a matchup against a 49ers team that allows many receptions to RBs. Allgeier is poised for an expanded role with Love out, although his matchup against the Seahawks depresses his fantasy upside.
