Lions vs. Rams Prediction on Spread

In a battle between two teams contending for playoff spots, L.A. being favored by 6.5 points may seem lofty. With that said, Detroit has covered only one of its past four games. Plus, the Lions have ceded 29.3 points per game since Week 12.

Injuries continue to hamper Detroit’s defense, and that will continue in Week 15 with S Kerby Joseph (knee) and Brian Branch (Achilles) out. This defense already yields 7.3 yards per pass attempt (26th) — lacking its top players in the secondary could add to the problem.

According to SumerSports, the Rams net 0.20 EPA per dropback (third). WRs Puka Nacua (94.6) and Davante Adams (82.8) boast impressive receiving grades at Pro Football Focus, helping vault the Rams to 7.7 yards per pass (seventh). Adams (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday, but Puka appears capable of carrying a workload given his 3.65 yards per route run, which ranks second in the sport.

On the other side of the ball, Detroit OT Taylor Decker (shoulder) and OG Christian Mahogany (fibula) were listed as questionable for Week 15. The Lions have already battled pass protection woes, ranking 30th in pass block win rate by ESPN. Los Angeles sits eighth in pass rush win rate.

Detroit averages 5.0 yards per rush (third), but the Rams have a possible answer once again by allowing 3.9 yards per carry (eighth) and -0.07 EPA per run (sixth).

The Lions look like a borderline playoff team, while Los Angeles has bigger fish to fry as the favorite to win the Super Bowl with a 4.34x payout at PrizePicks Team Picks.

Lions vs. Rams Picks for Week 15

Which player projections at PrizePicks stand out as potential top picks for Lions vs. Rams? Let’s dive in and find out.

Rams WR Puka Nacua vs. Lions Projection: 7.5 Receptions

  • Nacua sports a 30.3% target share (fifth) and 118 targets (fourth). Averaging 9.8 targets per game over the last month, Los Angeles’ top weapon could see more high usage — with or without Adams.
  • This goes hand in hand with Puka shining against Detroit’s porous secondary. Sharp Football Analysis ranks the Lions second in man coverage rate.
  • The former BYU Cougar has PFF’s top receiving grade against man coverage (91.9), paired with an impressive 3.83 yards per route run in that split (third).
  • With 7.8 receptions per game on the year, Nacua’s 7.5-catch projection sits right around his usual marks. When fully active, he averages 10.3 receptions facing defenses in the top half of the highest man coverage rate.

Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs vs. Rams Projection: 40.5 Receiving Yards

  • Detroit RB Jahmyr Gibbs has been heavily involved in the receiving game over the last four games, averaging 7.8 targets, 6.5 receptions, and 61.8 receiving yards per game.
  • Against an elite pass rush, Lions QB Jared Goff could look to check down to his RB often.
  • According to Pro Football Reference, the Rams have ceded 446 receiving yards against RBs (21st). Gibbs’ 474 receiving yards (third), 58 receptions (second), and 16.7% target share (fourth) all show he’s one of the league’s top pass-catching tailbacks.
  • The Rams being a near-TD favorite on PrizePicks Team Picks hints at a potential negative game script for Detroit. The Lions may be strong-armed into a heavy dose of passing. Gibbs totals 7.2 yards per target, offering Goff a quick outlet.
