Lamar Jackson Injury Update: Will Jackson Play in Week 7 vs. Bengals?
Jackson has missed the Ravens’ last two games, a pair of road matchups that they split. The Ravens beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-23 and, most recently, lost to the Cleveland Browns 13-10.
Jackson returned to practice on Wednesday, but it was in a limited capacity. It was the first time Jackson practiced since the ankle injury occurred 17 days ago. Afterward, Jackson had a “noticeable limp,” according to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley.
However, Jackson participated again in Thursday’s practice.
Ravens head coach Jesse Minter explains the team’s approach with handling Jackson’s injury.
“There’s nobody that wants to be out there more than Lamar,” Minter said on Wednesday via The Dundalk Eagle. “I understand all the stuff and what people say, but Lamar wants to play. But at the same time, you have to be healthy enough to play, and that’s how we would really treat any player.”
With Jackson being so significant for the Ravens’ outlook, it’s understandable why Minter is taking a cautious stance. Below, we’ll explain how Jackson’s availability will make a difference for fantasy football and Ravens picks for PrizePicks in Week 7.
Ravens Fantasy Football Outlook If Lamar Jackson Is Out
Like we said above, Jackson made progress by returning to practice. However, his status for the home matchup vs. the Bengals is still up in the air.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Jackson is a two-time NFL MVP and four-time Pro Bowler. When he’s in the lineup, few at the position are as dynamic.
Jackson has thrown 6 TDs with just 1 INT while being second in the NFL in QBR this season (81.9). Also, he’s rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 7.6 yards per carry.
Jackson is particularly effective against the Bengals, with 24 TDs and only 6 INTs dating back to 2018. The Ravens have an 11-2 record vs. the Bengals with Jackson in that span.
Meanwhile, the Ravens are 0-3 vs. the Bengals in that time frame without Jackson, losing by an average of 12.0 points per game.
The Ravens have turned to QB Tyler Huntley since Jackson’s injury. The seven-year pro guided the Ravens to a comeback victory vs. the Falcons but regressed in the loss to the Browns. He’s passed for 3 TDs and 0 INTs along with a rushing score this season.
Whether Jackson can play or not could make a significant difference in the Ravens’ ability to keep pace with a Bengals offense — which ranks ninth in points per game (25.6).
