When the Los Angeles Chargers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football, all eyes will be on rookie WR Ladd McConkey, who’s quickly becoming one of QB Justin Herbert’s most trusted targets.
Flashing his big-play ability that led to him being a very sought-after option following his rookie season, McConkey now aims to build on this momentum against a Steelers’ secondary that has struggled to limit explosives.
Let’s dive into the key Ladd McConkey stats, pick, and PrizePicks projections to watch ahead of this prime time matchup.

At the beginning of the season, it felt like McConkey was taking a backseat to the third-year emergence of WR Quentin Johnston and the return of WR Keenan Allen. Since then, McConkey has roared back with at least a TD or 7+ catches in four of five games.
That could be thanks to both Allen and Johnston taking small steps backwards and the emergence of rookie TE Oronde Gadsden II.
This matchup against the Steelers is a great spot for McConkey. Pittsburgh has struggled to defend WR and also play the seventh-most man coverage, per PFF. McConkey has performed his best statistically against that coverage throughout his NFL career.

16 receptions, 174 yards, 0 TDs, 2 drops, 59.3% catch
McConkey's last four games:
27 receptions, 294 yards, 3 TDs, 0 drops, 65.9% catch

After only logging more than this projection in one of his first five games, McConkey has been on fire the last month, summiting the threshold in three of his last four contests and taking back the WR1 reins on this Chargers offense.
With both of his starting bookend tackles in Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt out for the season, QB Justin Herbert has to get the ball out quickly most of the time. In plenty of those cases, McConkey is his go-to target, with Allen as a secondary one.
This is a Steelers defense that has allowed 10 different WRs to have more than McConkey’s Week 10 projection, and under the Sunday night lights, the young WR may be busy once again.
