Coker himself said in the aftermath of Sunday’s 22-point defeat that he’s dealing with an ankle injury sustained in the first quarter. He was spotted in the locker room wearing a boot, yet he doesn’t expect the ailment to hold him out of action moving forward.
Even with having rolled his ankle, Coker managed to play 57 offensive snaps vs. Chicago, good for 84% of those available. The third-year man made the most of his opportunities, recording 8 receptions on 9 targets for a whopping 138 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
QB Bryce Young logged a 118.7 passer rating when throwing to him, which was shockingly close to last season’s mark of 117.8. That came with a 13.8-yard average depth of target for Coker, emphasizing just how explosive of a threat he can be on offense when things are clicking.
There’s been no additional information relayed by Panthers head coach Dave Canales, which could be viewed as good news regarding Coker’s availability. Carolina has a showdown with the Atlanta Falcons on the docket at 1 p.m. ET this weekend, followed by a Week 3 bout against the Cleveland Browns at 1 p.m. the following Sunday.

RBs Chuba Hubbard and Jonathon Brooks, who combined for 5 targets, 4 catches, 86 yards and a TD through the air in the opener, are relevant pieces but are splitting work to start the year due to Brooks’ injury history.
