The French Tennis Federation probably didn’t envision Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca headlining a night session quarterfinal before the tournament, but we could be getting an introduction to two future stars.

This is the furthest either player has ever advanced at a Grand Slam, and whoever emerges victorious will be just one win away from reaching their first major final.

Below, we’ll break down our Jakub Mensik vs. Joao Fonseca prediction, recent form, and pick for the French Open quarterfinal, including a PrizePicks pick. The match is slated to start at approximately 2:15 p.m. ET, though it could begin later if the matches ahead of it go long. This year’s French Open is being covered on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max.

Jakub Mensik vs. Joao Fonseca Prediction for the French Open — Tuesday, June 2

2026 Record Entering the French Open: Mensik 18-9 | Fonseca 10-9
Head-to-Head Record: Fonseca leads 1-0

Of the two players in this matchup, Joao Fonseca has easily garnered the most hype after knocking out Novak Djokovic in the third round.

He followed that up by then defeating two-time French Open finalist Casper Ruud as well. Brazilian fans follow Fonseca everywhere he goes, and he’s certainly rewarded them in Paris with this deep run to the quarters.

While Fonseca’s raw talent has never been in question, a breakout at this particular major wasn’t expected amidst what’s been an up-and-down campaign. He entered the event with a middling 10-9 record (6-6 on clay), and before his victory over Djokovic, he was 1-6 versus top-10 opponents.

As for Jakub Mensik, the enduring image of his French Open thus far wasn’t exactly a positive one. Following a five-set win in the second round, he collapsed from cramps under brutal temperatures and was unable to leave the court until he received medical attention.

Despite that setback, he’s somehow recovered and gone on to defeat Alex De Minaur (world No. 7) and Andrey Rublev (No. 13) to make it to this stage.

However, much like Fonseca, Mensik didn’t come into this event on fire, either, as he was also batting .500 on clay (3-3) ahead of Roland Garros.

Both players have endured multiple five-setters to reach the quarters, so fatigue could also be a factor, particularly with neither one having experience playing late into majors.

The two players have similar career records on clay. Fonseca came in with a 19-16 record (54.3% win percentage), while Mensik entered at 15-11 (57.7%).

Put it all together, and the outcome of this duel might be more up in the air than the match winner payouts might suggest.

Per Tennis Abstract’s Elo ratings, Fonseca has a 54.8% win probability

Mensik vs. Fonseca — 38.5 Total Games

As alluded to above, these guys have spent a lot of time on the court through the first four rounds.

Outside a fairly routine straight-sets win against a low-ranked qualifier in his opening match, Fonseca has gone four or five sets in each of his last three matches, leading to 43, 53, and 45 total games.

Mensik had a similar path, besting a wild-card opponent across straight sets in the first round and then logging four or five sets over the next three rounds. His two five-setters went 47 and 49 total games, and while the four-setter went just 31 total games, that was the result of an unusual scoreline that included a bagel (0-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3).

The only previous meeting between Fonseca and Mensik came at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals. Although we probably can’t glean too much from that match due to the quirky scoring format (first to four games in each set), they went the distance across five sets.
