Ivica Zubac Injury Update: Is Zubac Playing Tonight?

The Clippers have officially ruled out Ivica Zubac for Wednesday’s game due to a left ankle sprain. Zubac suffered the injury in Monday’s 117-109 win against the Hornets and didn’t play in the fourth quarter of that contest.

According to The Athletic’s Law Murray, Zubac was seen moving slowly coming out of the locker room following Monday’s game.

Zubac missed two weeks due to a left ankle injury that he suffered in late December. As a result, it’s possible that the Clippers could be cautious with the injury.

James Harden and Kawhi Leonard (questionable, ankle) pace the Clippers in the scoring department. However, Zubac provides a stabilizing presence on the interior. The Clippers' big man has averaged 14.8 points, while leading the team in rebounds (10.7) and blocks (1.0) this season. Zubac also shoots a team-high 60.6% from the field.

Target John Collins With Zubac is Out?

With Zubac out vs. the Wizards, PF John Collins is one player who could benefit from Zubac’s absence.

It’s no secret that Zubac has been one of the most consistent Clippers offensively this season. However, Collins isn’t far behind in the scoring department. The veteran forward has averaged 13.1 PPG and 5.0 RPG, while also staying out of foul trouble.

Collins does offer another dimension of his game that Zubac doesn’t: his perimeter shooting. The 2017 first-round pick connects on 41.2% of his shots from beyond the arc, ranking third on the team. Collins doesn’t attempt a ton of threes (just 3.1 per contest), but he’s never going to be afraid to hoist up an open look.

The Clippers' power forward also excels on the glass. According to databallr, Collins rebounds 19.3% of his own misses, which ranks in the 85th percentile.
