DJ Moore Injury Update: Will Moore Play This Week?
For the second straight day, Moore didn’t practice ahead of this week’s contest against the Rams. Moore stood on the sidelines in a practice jersey on Friday, per WGRZ’s Jonathan Acosta.
Moore has injured his shoulder multiple times in the first four games of the season. Still, Bills head coach Joe Brady believes that Moore will do whatever he can to take the field on Monday night.
"He's always going to do literally everything he can to be out there, not just for himself, but for his teammates,” Brady said, per Spectrum News 1.
After missing two practices, Moore’s status could be determined closer to kickoff. Fortunately for the Bills, they do play on Monday night, giving Moore extra time to get healthy. If he misses Monday’s contest, how does that affect fantasy football and picks for PrizePicks?
Bills Fantasy Football Outlook If DJ Moore Is Out
The Bills acquired Moore in a trade from the Chicago Bears in March as they tried to find a No. 1 wideout for QB Josh Allen. Moore has shown flashes of big-play ability when he’s been on the field early in the season.
Leading up to the season, fantasy football managers selected Moore in their drafts as a player that offered a significant amount of upside. According to FantasyPros, Moore had a WR22 in average draft position (ADP) and was usually selected within the first five rounds for most PPR drafts.
Moore has caught 12 passes for 178 yards and a TD through the first four games. As he’s battled through shoulder injuries, Moore has seen just 20 targets thus far, ranking 46th among NFL WRs.
In Week 1, Moore caught 5 passes for 100 yards and a TD in his most efficient performance with Buffalo.
Moore has registered a 28.6% target rate, ranking 10th among all WRs, per PlayerProfiler. Additionally, Moore has registered an average depth of target of 15.9 yards (14th among WRs), according to Pro Football Focus.
If Moore can’t take the field in Week 5, the Bills could rely on TE Dalton Kincaid in the passing game. Kincaid leads all NFL tight ends in receiving yards (270) and has 98 yards after the catch (sixth among TEs).
Week 5 could pose a daunting challenge against a very stingy Rams defense. Los Angeles has given up 20.8 PPG (ninth), -0.107 EPA per play (third), and a 39.8% success rate (fourth), per RBSDM. Meanwhile, the Bills have been one of the league’s more prolific offenses, posting 0.204 EPA per play (second) and 0.287 dropback EPA (third).
The Rams have yielded a 39.8% dropback success rate (fifth) and just 145.5 passing yards per game (second). If Moore can play, his downfield prowess could be a factor, especially since he averages 13.5 yards per reception in his career.
