Friday College Football Previews for October 16, 2026

Here’s what you need to know before kickoff. Get deeper game-by-game research, including predictions and picks, from our Playbook CFB experts.

Memphis vs. Tulane – 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN

Records: Memphis 5-1 | Tulane 2-3 (0-1 American)

Where: Yulman Stadium, New Orleans, La.

  • Head coach Charles Huff’s first Memphis team has won three straight, outscoring Charlotte and UAB 97-21 in its last two.
  • Jaylin Carter and the Tigers’ run game (seventh nationally at 247 yards per game) face a Tulane run defense that ranks 134th.
  • Tulane is still stinging from a walk-off 20-17 loss at Army, decided by a field goal after Will Hall’s fourth-down gamble fell incomplete.
  • The Green Wave offense has stalled in Hall’s first season, averaging 18.4 points per game, 134th in FBS.
  • Don’t sleep on Tulane, though: the Green Wave have won three of the last four meetings vs. Memphis, including a 38-32 win last year.

Washington vs. Purdue – 8:00 p.m. ET, FOX

Records: Washington 3-3 (0-3 Big Ten) | Purdue 3-3 (2-1 Big Ten)

Where: Ross-Ade Stadium, West Lafayette, Ind.

  • Washington started 3-0, then dropped its first three Big Ten games to Minnesota, USC, and Iowa — including two at home.
  • Washington QB Demond Williams Jr. is unlikely to play with a rib injury. Elijah Brown, who threw for 251 yards and three TDs in relief against Iowa, gets the start.
  • Purdue has won back-to-back Big Ten games for the first time since 2022 in coach Barry Odom’s second season.
  • Purdue RB Fame Ijeboi ran for 195 yards and 3 TDs against Minnesota, his former team, and leads the nation with 43 forced missed tackles, per PFF.
  • Purdue is favored, but history isn’t on its side: the Boilermakers have beaten Washington just twice, though that's in the distant past. The Huskies' last head-to-head win came in the 2002 Sun Bowl.
Make your Washington vs. Purdue picks on PrizePicks — the Huskies pay 2.32x to win outright

Appalachian State vs. Coastal Carolina – 8:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2

Records: Appalachian State 3-2 (0-1 Sun Belt) | Coastal Carolina 2-4 (1-1 Sun Belt)

Where: Brooks Stadium, Conway, S.C.

  • Both teams need this one to stay in the Sun Belt East race.
  • Coastal owns this rivalry lately, with four straight wins, including a 45-37 comeback on the road last season.
  • App State managed just three points in a rain-soaked 10-3 loss to Old Dominion. QB Malachi Singleton (1,278 yards, 7 TDs) needs a bounce-back.
  • Coastal’s defense forced six turnovers in a 27-21 win at Marshall and leads the Sun Belt with 13 takeaways.
  • Chanticleers QB Deuce Bailey has 13 TD passes and has thrown at least one in every game.
