Bayern Munich vs. PSG Champions League Prediction for Semifinal – Wednesday, May 6

PSG looked like they’d potentially put one foot into the final last week as they led 5-2 after 58 minutes, courtesy of two goals in three minutes.

However, Bayern Munich immediately responded with goals in the 65th and 68th minute, and only a goal line clearance in the fourth minute of stoppage time denied them a draw. That fightback sets up a second leg that offers the chance of extra time or even penalties.

Both sides heavily rotated this weekend and enter fairly healthy. However, there are key injuries for each squad.

PSG lost dynamic RB Achraf Hakimi to a hamstring injury late in the first leg. It’s a massive loss at both ends of the pitch, and could offer a bit more freedom in attack for Bayern LW Luis Diaz. RB Warren Zaire-Emery will replace Hakimi.

The Bavarians will be without AM Serge Gnabry, whose injury against Real Madrid last month has seen him out for the remainder of the season. AM Jamal Musiala may be an upgrade over Gnabry, but the absence hurts Bayern’s depth.

Otherwise, we should see little change to the sides that combined to score nine goals a week ago. We’re also unlikely to see much change in how the sides play.

Both Bayern and PSG love to get on the front foot, and neither show much of a propensity of sitting back to defend a lead. PSG’s three-headed monster of RW Desire Doue, ST Ousmane Dembele, and LW Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will put pressure on Bayern’s back line with their pace.

Tthe three combined for seven goal involvements in the first leg. They were the spear of an attack that scored five goals despite just 20 penalty box touches and 1.50 xG in the first leg.

On the flip side, Bayern know they must win in order to at least force extra time. They’ll be bolstered by the 52 touches they had inside PSG’s penalty area in the first leg, and the stellar form of their own attacking trio of RW Michael Olise, ST Harry Kane, and Diaz.

If Bayern are to advance, they’ll need legendary GK Manuel Neuer to step up. He failed to make a single save in the first leg, making him the first keeper in 16 years to concede 5 goals or more in a knockout stage match without making a save.

Bayern Munich vs. PSG Picks, Stats for PrizePicks Today

Here are two Bayern Munich vs. PSG picks to target on players for Wednesday, May 6. Today’s UEFA Champions League picks for PrizePicks are headlined by Michael Olise and Desire Doue.

Bayern Munich RW Michael Olise vs. PSG: 3.5 Shots

  • Michael Olise has attempted 4 shots or more in each of his last five home appearances.
  • That number is made more impressive when you consider his last two home outings saw him play just 45 minutes against both FC Heidenheim and Mainz.
  • Olise attempted 2 shots in 90 minutes in the first leg away at PSG.
  • The French winger has attempted 41 shots in 12 Champions League matches this season, with an average of 3.72 per 90 minutes. Only six players have attempted more.
  • As a team, Bayern Munich have attempted an average of 20.8 shots per match at home in the Champions League.
  • This is in comparison to only 16.4 in away fixtures.
  • Olise trails only Kane in Champions League shot attempts this season for Bayern, who have a strong possibility of an elevated shot total due to trailing on aggregate.

PSG RW Desire Doue vs. Bayern Munich: 25.5 Passes Attempted

  • Doue has averaged 50.57 passes per 90 minutes over his last nine matches.
  • He’s attempted at least 29 passes in seven of those outings, despite averaging just 70 minutes per match.
  • The French winger attempted just 19 passes in the first leg against Bayern Munich.
  • However, Hakimi’s injury on the right means Doue is likely to come back to help a bit more defensively, which could put him in position to get on the ball more often.
  • PSG’s wingers tend to be more involved in buildup from deeper positions on the road, which is reflected in their passing numbers.
  • As a result, Doue is averaging 58.89 passes per 90 minutes over his last eight away matches.
