2026 Masters Sunday Preview & Round 3 Leaderboard
The story after Friday's Round 2 was McIlroy’s stunning finish and six-shot lead over the field, the largest in Masters history after 36 holes.
On Saturday, the Round 3 story was Cameron Young, who tallied 8 birdies and 1 bogey en route to a 65, his lowest round at the Masters. It sets up for a Masters Sunday with eight golfers within four shots of the lead.
McIlroy’s historic six-shot lead took an immediate blow as he bogeyed the first hole and failed to birdie the second hole, a Par 5. His birdie on three got him back to -12, and he recorded a par on each of the final six holes of the front 9 to maintain the lead.
Meanwhile, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler posted a 65, 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed birdied the first three holes, Sam Burns birdied the first two holes, Shane Lowry aced the par-3 6th hole, and Young birdied four of the first eight holes to tighten things up on the Masters scoreboard.
McIlroy was still on top after a birdie on the 10th hole, but his approach on 11 landed in the water, where he took a double bogey. Young birdied 13, 14, and 16 to tie for the lead.
After McIlroy followed with a bogey on the par-3 12th hole, Young was the outright leader. The two traded the lead down the stretch, as the defending champion rebounded with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, but a bogey on 17 meant a tie after 54 holes.
Young — who now has a 3.22x payout to win the tournament — won The Players Championship three weeks ago. He's aiming to become the third consecutive player to win The Players followed by the Masters win, as McIlroy did last year and Scheffler the year before.
Scheffler finished Round 2 at even par — 12 shots back. On Sunday, he eagled the 2nd hole, then added five more birdies to set a Masters career-low with a 65 to sit four strokes back in a tie for seventh place.
Behind McIlroy and Young at 10-under par sits 18-hole co-leader Sam Burns, who followed up his 65-71 start with a Round 3 score of 68.
Shane Lowry used his hole-in-one on the 6th hole to kick-start a run up to just two shots out in pursuit of his second major title. Major champions Jason Day and Justin Rose are tied for fifth place at 8-under par.
2026 Masters Winner Payouts for Sunday's Final Round
As we head to the 2026 Masters Sunday, keep in mind that each of the last nine Masters winners came from the final pairing on Masters Sunday, with Danny Willett in 2016 the last champion to not play in the final group.
Will Sunday be McIlroy’s back-to-back history, or will Cam Young continue his red-hot play and take his first major title?
