Heading into a key NBA Central Division clash, Bucks PG Kevin Porter Jr.’s status for Wednesday is up in the air. He’s questionable for Milwaukee's rumble with the Pistons with lower back spasms. This comes after playing in just his third game this season on December 1.
Porter erupted for a season-high 30 points against the Wizards on Monday and his efficiency is at an all-time high, posting career highs in true shooting percentage (81.2%) and assist percentage (27.3%)
He remained optimistic about his availability against Detroit after his latest performance.
Milwaukee has plenty of other capable guards who can step up in today’s Pistons vs. Bucks game if Porter is ultimately ruled out.
Below, we’ll deliver a Kevin Porter Jr. injury update and go over what Bucks players stand out as ideal lineup additions, plus PrizePicks NBA projections and analysis for Wednesday night.
Kevin Porter Jr. Injury Update vs. Pistons
KPJ will miss his 20th game of the season if he’s not able to bounce back from the back injury he picked up hauling in a rebound against Washington. It appears he thinks it’s just a minor tweak, but things haven’t gone his way this year.
Porter suffered an ankle sprain a few minutes into his 2025-26 debut against the Wizards. He then tore his meniscus while rehabbing for that ankle injury and had to undergo a minor surgery that required four weeks of recovery.
Porter’s 2025 sample size is small, but his shooting splits are absurd. He’s averaging 17.7 points while shooting 63.3% from the field and 71.4% from deep. Someone will have to replace that production, and the most likely candidate to do that is KPJ’s backcourt partner.
Who Will Benefit With Kevin Porter Jr. Out?
Bucks PG Ryan Rollins is the player most likely to get a healthy boost from Porter missing Wednesday’s game. The former Warrior and Wizard reserve is having a breakout year and has used his team’s health issues to his advantage to nail down a regular starting spot.
The Toledo product is averaging career highs in points assists (5.8) and rebounds (4.0) while shooting 48.1% from the field and 40.5% from beyond the arc.
Rollins has taken a team-high 305 shots with Porter off the court this season and is averaging 26.6 points per possession without his backcourt partner, according to Add More Funds. It’s seems that Milwaukee has faith in his ability to carry a significant offensive workload.
Rollins tallied 24 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds without F Giannis Antetokounmpo in his first meeting with Detroit this year and could have a path to healthy shot volume in round two.
