The New Orleans Saints bolstered their offense by selecting WR Jordyn Tyson with the No. 8 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Tyson was turning heads at training camp, generating buzz for his upcoming rookie campaign.

However, the first-year wideout’s upcoming season just hit a major bump in the road, as he’s expected to miss prolonged time from a hamstring injury.

Various reports have claimed Tyson will miss about two months, making a notable impact on the Saints’ offense to open the 2026 regular season. Below, we’ll break down the latest Jordyn Tyson injury update, when he could return, and how the news currently impacts New Orleans.

Jordyn Tyson Injury Update: How Long Is Rookie WR Out?

Tyson suffered the hamstring injury in a joint practice session against the Jaguars on Thursday, August 13. The injury was announced on Friday, August 14, with Saints head coach Kellen Moore stating, “We’ve just got to let those experts evaluate this and then we’ll put together a plan.”

As mentioned, various reports emerged on Monday evening that Tyson would miss about two months from the injury. Assuming that’s the case, the rookie could make his regular season debut in Week 4 against the Falcons.

However, the Saints have left the door open for placing Tyson on the short-term injured reserve list. If that comes to fruition, then the rookie from Arizona State would miss the first four regular-season games. In this scenario, Tyson’s first game may come on October 11 vs. the Vikings in Week 5.

Frankly, the first-round pick’s injury history has become glaring. Ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, Tyson was expected to fall outside the top 15 picks, but he quickly shot up draft boards following his private workout—showcasing he was fully healthy. Injuries were usually the main knock on his stock, and here we are yet again.

Tyson has arguably the highest ceiling of any WR in the 2026 class, but that’s when and if he’s healthy. He battled a hamstring injury with the Sun Devils in the 2025 season, playing in only nine games. That followed his 2024 season that ended prematurely from a broken collarbone.

His lingering hamstring injury from 2025 causes obvious concern around his current setback. However, Moore said this hamstring injury was unrelated to last season’s problem, easing those worries.

For now, the Saints must prepare to operate without a potential breakout star on their offense. How does the Jordyn Tyson injury news impact the Saints, including season-long projections via PrizePicks Team Picks?

How Jordyn Tyson Injury News Affects Saints, Fantasy Football

Tyson was making a clear impact during training camp, and he was even listed as a starter on the first unofficial depth chart. Tyson was set to provide a much-needed boost to this offense that totaled only 18.0 points per game (28th) and 5.0 yards per play (27th) last season.

Considering New Orleans’ 59.5% pass-play rate from 2025 (fifth-highest), many have been excited about Tyson’s workload. That potential prominent role fueled Tyson to likely contend for Offensive Rookie of the Year, but he now has a lofty 22.22x payout to win the award on PrizePicks Team Picks, implying a high probability.

His injury already shifted the Offensive Rookie of the Year race, but the Saints still feature a 1.4x payout to total 7+ wins and a 1.72x payout for 8+ wins in the 2026 season. If Tyson’s absence stays within four games, he should still have plenty of time to help New Orleans improve compared to last season’s 6-11 record.

Regarding player projections for regular-season action, WRs Barion Brown, Kevin Austin Jr., and Bryce Lance are all listed as second-string wideouts on the first unofficial depth chart.

Austin totaled 151 and 140 receiving yards in the first two seasons, appearing in eight games for each campaign. The Saints selected Lance in the fourth round, followed by Brown in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Both rookies have made noise at training camp, becoming clear options to step up in Tyson’s absence.

Saints WR Chris Olave should benefit from the injury, too. PlayerProfiler credited Olave with a 29.4% target share (10th-highest) last season, and that may be even higher until Tyson returns from injury.

Focusing on fantasy football, Tyson is currently WR42 for PPR (point per reception) leagues in FantasyPros’ consensus fantasy football draft rankings. Furthermore, his average draft position (ADP) recently jumped by +14 picks to 87 overall thanks to camp hype, but that’s bound to slide following the news.
