England vs. Argentina Prediction, Spread, Over/Under for World Cup Semifinals – Wednesday, July 15

How to watch England vs. Argentina: FOX (English) / Telemundo & Peacock (Spanish)

Kickoff Time: 3 p.m. ET

Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA, USA

When England and Argentina meet on Wednesday, there will be far more on the line than just a spot in the 2026 World Cup finals. It’s a matchup of two nations whose fans have grown up despising one another, due to the Falkland Islands and the war between the nations in 1982 and Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal in the 1986 World Cup to defeat England.

As a result, tensions will be higher than usual at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It should lead to an intense atmosphere to fuel the tremendous developments on the pitch.

Argentina has history on their side. They’ve never lost a World Cup semifinal in five previous visits to the round, and they’ve not dropped a knockout stage match at a major tournament in seven years.

This is one of the tighter matches in terms of implied odds of any in the 2026 World Cup knockout stage, and with good reason. England and Argentina both rank among the top five nations in shots on target per match. Both also thrive on set piece opportunities. England and Argentina each average at least 0.5 goals per match from dead ball situations, combining for 10 shots per match.

England and Argentina are also being carried offensively by their big names. Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham have shown up in this competition, scoring 12 of England’s 13 goals and coming through repeatedly in the clutch.

Bellingham has been a monster in the knockout stages, and his braces against Mexico and Norway have suddenly thrust him into the Golden Boot conversation. He’s operating at times almost as a second striker, converting 35.29% of his shots in the tournament.

This could be one of the match’s deciding factors. Argentina’s entire setup is designed for 10 players to do the work of 11, with Messi getting on the ball and making things happen in return. It’s why he leads the squad per 90 minutes in goals, assists, key passes, successful dribbles, chances created, big chances created, and accurate crosses. But it’s also created situations where he’s gotten little support at times.

Messi was held without a shot by Switzerland until second-half stoppage time. As a result, Argentina were level until Breel Embolo’s red card gave them a man advantage as their attacks were stalling out.

Both defenses have performed well but have flaws that can be exploited. England CM Declan Rice’s status is of major consequence, as they’ll need him to counter the Argentine CM Enzo Fernández. A setback could give La Albiceleste a major advantage in the center of the park.

Rice isn’t the only injury concern for England. His Arsenal teammate, Bukayo Saka, is dealing with multiple injuries and is questionable to start but could come off the bench again as he did against Norway. However, that would mean starting Noni Madueke, who was atrocious in the first half of that match.

The paths taken by both teams are worth keeping in mind. England had to see off Mexico at the Azteca in a grueling affair, then had to defeat a dark horse Norway squad in the brutal Miami heat. Conversely, Argentina barely squeaked past Cape Verde in extra time, Egypt via a late comeback, and Switzerland in extra time with a man advantage.

Seeing this match venture past 90 minutes and into extra time would not be surprising in the least. These are two evenly matched outfits led by players capable of clutch goals. The difference between playing in the World Cup final or the third-place match may very well lie in which nation gets a timely goal or contribution from a supporting member of their cast.
