Sitting at 2-11, the 2025 campaign is a wash for the Tennessee Titans. After firing coach Brian Callahan following Week 6, this team has lacked direction for most of the season.

As one of the NFL’s worst teams, Tennessee’s roster needs plenty of work. Perhaps most importantly, this squad needs a quality head coach considering it still carries a potential franchise piece in rookie QB Cam Ward. Will Tennessee hire a coach favoring his development? Who will be the Titans' next coach?

With those questions in mind, let’s dive into the top Titans head coach candidates on PrizePicks Team Picks.

Let's now narrow our focus to the top three Titans head coach candidates, beginning with the favorite.

1: Mike McCarthy (Free Agent)

Among Titans head coach candidates, Mike McCarthy may be regarded as the most qualified. His last stop was as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

From 2020 to 2024, Dallas touted a 49-35 record (.583 win rate) and appeared in the playoffs in three of five seasons. The Pittsburgh native led the Green Bay Packers to a 125-77-2 record (.613 win rate) from 2006 to 2018, making nine postseason appearances and winning Super Bowl XLV in 2011.

McCarthy could add much-needed stability to the Titans franchise, similar to its previous head man (and current New England Patriots leader) Mike Vrabel. After all, McCarthy has led teams to the playoffs in 12 of 18 seasons as a head coach.

2: Matt Nagy (Chiefs Offensive Coordinator)

Matt Nagy comes from the Andy Reid coaching tree. After leading the Kansas City Chiefs’ QB room from 2013 to 2016, Nagy was the offensive coordinator in 2017. He then moved up the career ladder once more, becoming the Chicago Bears' head coach following that season.

From 2018 to 2021, the former Chiefs OC led the Bears to a 34-31 record (.523 win rate) while making two postseason appearances. Following his tenure in Chicago, he rejoined the Chiefs staff. After coaching QBs in 2022, Nagy has once again held the Chiefs OC position since 2023.

Despite their struggles this season, Kansas City ranks first and seventh in plays and points per drive, respectively. If the Titans are searching for an offensive-minded coach, Nagy could be their guy.

3: Kliff Kingsbury (Commanders Offensive Coordinator)

Another offense-leaning coach in Kliff Kingsbury is among the top three favorites. He began his career in the collegiate ranks, leading Texas Tech as head coach from 2013 to 2018.

Despite coaching the Red Raiders to an unimpressive 35-40 record (.467 win rate) during his six-season tenure, Kingsbury build a reputation as an offensive guru. The former Texas Tech QB later leaped to the NFL, becoming the Arizona Cardinals head coach. Arizona touted a 28-37-1 record (.432 win rate) under him from 2019 to 2022, making one playoff appearance.

After holding a senior offensive analyst role at USC in 2023, Kingsbury has been the Washington Commanders offensive coordinator since 2024. Due to a wide range of injuries, Washington’s numbers have lacked in 2025. However, Kingsbury helped lead the Commanders to 28.8 points per game (sixth) last year while guiding QB Jayden Daniels to a Rookie of the Year-winning debut campaign.

Who Will Be the Titans’ Next Head Coach?

Most of this hire should be about building around QB Cam Ward. As a former No. 1 pick, he could become the heartbeat of this franchise.

Ward hasn’t shown much in 2025, but his supporting cast is poor. Callahan made questionable decision after questionable decision early on, hence why he didn't last long. The rookie’s dealt with a major coaching change while throwing to perhaps the league’s worst receiving corps, and ESPN ranks Ward's offensive line in the bottom half of pass block and run block win rates.

Typically, the first step to rebuilding a franchise is landing a long-term QB. Ward might be the answer, and the ideal head coach can help unlock his potential.

Hiring McCarthy may focus on stability, while Nagy and Kingsbury could be “Ward-centric” hires. PrizePicks Team Picks also has Buffalo Bills OC Joe Brady, who feels like a QB-friendly candidate, listed with a 6.66x payout for “Yes” to be the next head coach of the Titans.

Much of this could boil down to where McCarthy ends up. He may become an intriguing New York Giants head coach candidate, carrying a 5x payout for “Yes” to be their next head coach on PrizePicks Team Picks.
